Choosing a Tank
Select a faction (Russia, Nato, China). To buy a tank you have to 'Explore' it with 'Experience'. Experience is accrued through battles. To Explore, you have to ensure tanks to the left on the same line, are Explored first.
Tanks are Light, Medium or Heavy. Light tanks are agile, have fast rounds per minute (RPM) and raise Silver. Heavy tanks cause high damage and have high armour, but cost a lot of silver to maintain. Medium tanks are a hybrid of Lights and Heavies.
On the image below you can see the tank icons have a number next to them. This indicates the level of the tank. For example, Centauro 120 is a Level 5 Medium tank. If you have a spare tank slot, it's worth filling it with a Level 1 tank, as they are free.
Western Front recently voted BMP2, CV90, BMP4 (Premium), T72 Ural & T72 M1M (Premium) our favourite low-level tanks.

Winning
If you want to win more, don't make the mistake of thinking, buying a higher level tank will lead to greater success. Tank Force algorithms deliberately expose you to enemies with higher-level tanks. So, when you buy a higher level tank, the algorithms will also match you against again higher level tanks. This often puts you in a worse situation, than before. It's better to fully upgrade tanks, before buying more. Prioritise upgrading Main gun/Armour/Autoloader in that order. A couple of solutions to the problem are:
1. If you do buy a higher tank, don't initially use it or put any ammo in it. Keep upgrading it, when it's done 70%, use it. If you don't use it, you won't face upper-tier players as much as if you did play with it.
2. When you want to buy better tanks, focus on grouping. Ensure the level distance between your top and bottom level tanks is tight (eg rather than one level 2 and one level 8, have one level 2 and one level 3. Then in time, switch the level 2 for a level 4). This prevents you from wasting a lot of silver buying a tank and discovering its maintenance makes you broke or that your enemies aren't suddenly profoundly more difficult.
Beginning with tier 8 tanks, their maintenance cost is higher than their earning. If you have a level 8 or above, it's advised to start with lighter tanks first, for earning silver and have sustainable "income". High tier heavy tanks, are good to have them in your collection, to increase your damage score. But are costly and if overused, will require you to spend real money to sustain playing Tank Force.
Gold short? Invest in permanent GEARS, which are a one-time investment. But not EQUIPMENT, as they are consumables and can be expensive.
Anchor tanks
Usually, within gameplay you meet tanks two levels above your highest tank, this is to encourage you to spend more. Over time this will increase to more levels. Owning an UNUSED (no ammo/equip/gear) tank, two levels higher than your desired highest tank, reduces the frequency you come into contact with these high-level competitors.
